Hardman, re tor of Grate Episcopal cnurcb, will go to Sioux Falls tomorrow to attend the third annual council of the sixth mis sionary department which will be held in that city Oct 10 to 12. Eight states will be represented in the council which, will be presided over by Bishop Tuttle of St. Louis. The convocation of the eastern deanery will meet next Wednesday, following the council. Miller, brakeuoen on Conductor Wineshurg's freight train, were stabbed. An Italian is employed at Bryant as coal beavei. Dining the day yesterday the Italian had had tron ble with a train crew about coaling an engine and when Conductor Wines burg's train came along be was in i fighting mood. Miller was the first to come in contact with the fighting Italian and was stabbed in tr.e leg. Kuhl ran to Miller's assistance and received a bad cut in the abdomen. Dr. M. Christianson of Bryant gave tbe injuied men first relief and accompan ied them to this city wheie thev were placed in the hospital. Kuhl is the most seriously injured, but Dr. Chris tianson says both men will recover if unfavorable complications do not ap pear. The Italian was arrested and placed in the Bryant jail. The First Baptist church of thi? city has arranged for what promises to be a most interesting and protfiable lecture by Rev. A. C. Hageman on the subject, Cuba, the beautiful land of to morrow. The lecture will be illus trated by 110 splendid views showing the life, people, and opportunities cf Cuba. Rev. Hageman is a former classmate of Rev. Stockton, and has been engaged in missionary work in this island. Winthfer and Monroe Special Election Called The city council met 'in regular monthly meeting last evening. Pre sent. Mayor Waskey, AldB. Mnnro, Sheridan, Kxakowski, Simpson, Win tber, and Auditor Rae. The resignations of Aids. C. W Winther and F. G. Monroe were pre sen ted and accepted. Mr. Monroe ami family have xemoved to Sioux Falls where Mr. Monroe will become con nected with tbe Jones Seed Co. in the capacity of treasurer. Mr. Winther having sold out his business interests in this city will remove to Pasadena. Cal., departing for that place about th 20th inst. A special election was called to bt held Thursday, Oct. 21 to fill vacan cies caused by tbe resignations which occur in the First and Fourth ward* Judges were appointed as follows: Fiist ward —Wui. Matcalf, N. Stacy, Geo. Knapp, Fourth ward —S. Woo ley, Chas. An gle, Wm. Hamilton. An ordinance was introduced and had its first reading providing fot a li cense for transcient photographers. The current bills of the month wexe audited and allowed. The council discussed the matter of installing new machinery in the elec tric light plant. The smaller engine of the two ordered has arrived. This is of 80 horsepower capacity. The gas producers are on tbe ground, and the concrete foundations far the new ina cbinery are nearly completed. The large engine is expected to arrive ac cording to contract, shipment to be made from the factory October 9. The dynamos are read/ lot shipment and will come forward on tbe order of the council. ACCUSED OF HIGH TREASON Thirty Persons Convicted and Giver Severe Sentences. Agran, Austria, Oct. 6.—After trial lasting seven months sentence were handed down in the cases fifty-two schoolteachers, priests an other persons charged with conne tion with what is known as tb "Greater Servla conspiracy." Tl: prisoners were accused of high trea son in participating in a movement for the union of Croatia, Slavonia and Bosnia to Servia, even carrying the propaganda among the troops of tlx Austro-Hurigarian army.
