He outdistanced all the others by eating 28 high-priced eggs and was awarded the state champion Dhip. Bison.—State Veterinarian J. P. McGhee has found evidence Of an thrax in several cattle herds In south ern Perkins county. A number *f cattle in various herds have died from this disease, which is fatal to '{inimal or man. It is believed it gained a foothold because of so much Consumption of dry feed. Ludlow.—-Peter Anderson, a farm er near here, was accidentally killed J)y the discharge of a 22-calibre rifle In the hands of his son. The two Vrere riding on a load of hay when the boy saw a rabbit and started to hand the loaded gun to his father. The rifle ball entered the man's head and he died instantly. Sioux Falls.- Relatives here have been notified of the death of Lee jHeyl, of Bryant, who was frozen to "death last month near Moose lake, Manitoba, Canada, during a trapping expedition. Heyl left Bryant some time ago for Canada with the inten- tion of putting in his time trapping Castlewood.—Castlewood has au- i become a city of the sec- cla8S and at the annual A''r» 20 election w"' elect fu" city officers. Mob ridge.—Ambrose Traverse, a resident of the Cheyenne Indian res ervation, came to Mobridge with his wife, bought a quart of shellac, pour ed shalt into it to separate the alco hoi, drank the mixture and proceed-1 ed to pummel the woman. He was arrested on the charge of assault and battery and pleaded guilty. The jus tice fined him $50 and costs. Sioux Falls.—A 10-year-old boy, I who ran away from his home on a1 farm near Sioux Falls, was before Judge Martin Bergh, of the munici pal court on the charge of attempting at several business houses to pass a check on which appeared the name of a man he did not even know. The boy admitted he forged the check. The case was referred to the juvenile court. Sioux Falls.—It was announced here that Rt. Rev. Thomas O'Gorman of this city, Catholic bishop of the eastern diocese of South Dakota, has appointed Rev. Father W. S. O'Meara, of Watertown, as superin tendent of all the Catholic schools of the diocese. The schools are forty in number and are located in differ ent parts of that section of South Da kota lying east of the Missouri river.
