THE citizens of Pierre pay nn n#ent
to travel on the railroad west of Wino
na and induce travelers to visit that
city. This is enterprise that will win.
The board of grain inspectors of
Dakota were to meet at Minneapolis on
Wednesdav of this week, hut what
they expected to do we are not in
formed.
AT Blooniinjrton. 111..recently.$200,
000 was drawn from the hanks by per
sons coming to Dakota, and at Klmira.
N. Y., a still larger amount was with
drawn for the sanie purpose.
AT various places throughout the
Territory* manufacturing enterprises of
various kinds are springing up and it
will not lie many years until Dakota is
self-supporting in many things of
which she is now dependent
It Is expected that President Arthur
and party, who are taking in the west
ern country, are somewhere in the
mining section of Dakota, to-day. The
telegraph does not state whether or not
they will visit Clifton.
KANSAS is already raising more
timln-r than she uses, and it will not he
so many years ere Dakota does the
same. With our timlwr claims and
th£ trees put out on pre-emptions and
homesteads the area will be considera
ble.
JUDOE BROOKINGS, who has resided
in Dakota for twenty-six years, says he
has never seen finer crops in South
eastern Dakota, and adds: )ne has
to ride over all the east half of the new
state to be impressed with its wonder
ful resources, its remarkably rapid set
tlement and the unimaginable increase
of material wealth which is apparent
on every hand."
A SPECIAL telegram from Washing
ton goes on to oay that then' is every
reason to lielicve that the friends of the
Dakota admission scheme will use ev
ery etFortto crowd the measure through
the next session of Congress, the plan
In'ing. as before, to divide the Territoiy,
and admit the most populous half to
the I'nion. The matter cannot, with
any shallow of justice to a rapid grow
ing section of the country. l»e much
hftiger post])oned. The telegram is
correct. Southern Dakota its has meg
stuck for statehood, and is lound to
get there in spite of Congress.

The result of Wednesdays election
for delegates to the Constitutional Con
vention is not officially known as we
go to press, the votes not having leen
canvassed by the Board, hut the figures
brought over from Potter county gives
the election to J. 11. Westover and E.
W. Kakin. It is strongly hinted that
there has been considerable "skull
duggciy "—to call it by a mild name—
in the matter. In Clifton and Okohojo
precincts the name, residence and loca
tion by section and township of even
man voting was taken, so tliat there
could IK? no jmssibility of fraud. Was
there anythiug of the kind at Onila
and in Potter caunty Below is the
claimed vote as near as we can give it
from the information at hand:
