candidate for tlio presiding oillcer of
the senate at Hh coming together
next month. The Cai'Itaij Jouit

his deportment In fact possesses all
tho essential qualities with none of

ally and Intimately acquainted with
Mr. Fulleiton for years. Knew
him as a toldler-boy, knew him as a
student, knew him as an oillcer,
knew him as a citl.en and knew
him as a friend. In all these years
and in all thet-e places and callings

NKKDKO 1.KU1ST.ATION,
The laws now in foico governing
tho liquor trade of tho state aro very
crudo and liberal to the saloon
element. they were passed many
years ago and found defective. The
Kendy bill was enacted and took
Its place for a short time but being
declined unconstitutional by tho
supremo court of the state tho old
law with all its dofeotw again came
Into power. Two years ago both
saloon men and Prohibitionists op
posed legislation and there was
nothing done. It seems to bo gen
erally understood that the next leg
ialaturo will bo asked to do some
thing iu tho matter. As It appears
that Oregon ii not rlpo for prohi
bition a good stringent high license
law similar to tho Kcady law, can
and ought to bo passed.
