C An inter esting real estate transaction was placed on record In tho county record er's offlco today It Involves tho salo of tho lands' belonging to tho Akin estate, and ombrnclrig Fort Johnston, tho oldest baronial mansion in tho United States, to Ethan and Louis, Akin, of Grundy county, Iowa, for a consideration of $23,000. Tho cstato wns divided Into twonty pnrcols. Tho first pnrcol sold to two brothers In cluded East Johnston, which for many years has boon tho mccca of students of history. Tho fort was sold for $5000. Various historical societies havo at different times contemplated buying tho old stono fort nnd mansion, but tho Aikln family would not part with it at any price. It is now believed that tho big cstato will bo dlvldod into building lots, and that tho old fort, which is still in a good state of preservation, will bo loft with a few ncros of ground around It.
