A. B. PETERS, Editor and Owner. DEYOTED iiiiloPMENT OF THE YIMOUS RESOURCES OF MORGAN COUNTY D. C. BONIFACIUS, Publisher. ,rT Mri WARTBURG, TENN., FRIDAY, DEC. 151922. 1 JLOOAYBAR t 1 "' . ,i - HIGH SCHOOL NOTES. From one of the basal hooks of the Teacher-Training course?, Betts we have these suggestions that will be in place just now as the time of year is'at hand when one thinks of being happy finding happiness those who look for happiness seldom find it it is in being lost in duty joyous human endeavor. "The value of happiness as one of the fundamental aims of life can not be too strongly held in mind in the teaching of the youth. True, there are many other aims than that of securing personal happiness, and yet those who have had the most experience in life and achieve ment agree that the individual who has attained true happiness has while reaching this accomplishment also done most for the world." It is a common mistake to con fuse the means of happiness with the thing itself. There are many who become so busy with making a living, or with the securing the nec essary conditions to a broad life, as to forget to live in the broadest, richest and happiest sense. By happiness is not meant freed om from responsibility, care or even sorrow. Happiness at its best con sists in no small degree in the deep seated satisfaction found in the un restricted use of one's powers toward i the achievement of the ends that seem abundantly worth while. ''Education should not be looked on by its posessor as a means of es caping effort or labor, but of accom plishing a larger and higher service while attaining personal success.'' We heard a man' who had made money up to the 100,000 mark-say ''Jones, well, he is a failure, got nothing; but Jones had done more for the happiness and success of men in one year than the saver of dollars had for twenty years." Incalcuble waste occurs because of divorcement of school interests from the outside occupational and social interests. - TiirA shnnld also arise in this connection a ieeling of the value of j personal courage whether this courage be of the physical sort that enables one to withstand hardships, danger or suffering in the accom plishment of duty, whether it be of the intellectual sort that enables one to step out upon new platform of thought, willing to accept truth and its consequences wherever found, or whether it be of the mor al kind, enabling one to stand se cure in presence of evil and tempta tion.' T,pt me do my work from day to day In field or forest, at the desk or loom In roaring market place, or tranquil room; Let me but find it in my heart to say, When vagrant wishes beckon me astray, This U my work, my blessing, not my doom. You might tell me something about how you spend your time after school until supper and a few of the games you play and how you spend Saturday and Sunday. I am sure you goto Sun day school on Sundays. Be sure and take enough time to read the Bible every night. It is the greatest book that ever has been printed, and teaches you about the greatest man that ever lived, you will get more real things from it than any other book of today or ever will be. Big writers who write inspirational stor ies quote the Bible very often. I am going to leave you now and get ready for bed as I am a little tired and sleepy. Be sure and write for me those things I have asked and take a week to write them and tell me just as if you were talking to me. Good bye. UNCLE JAKE.
