MAiisiiALX,,.EDITOR. TiCKlUT'JltlAly ALIJANCK. The Scandinavian Elevator Compa ny, he said, was organized after a full and free canvass of the grain ship ment question by leading Alliance men of Dakota and Minnesota, togeth er with flouring men of America and Europe. The objects of this company is to carry grain, (Dakota No. 1 hard,) di rect from the farmer to the consumer, or as nearly as possible. Tow the monopoly buyer takes from 2 to 5 cents per bushel at "Woonsocket, the com mission man at St. Paul or Minneapo lis takes a like amount, then the Chi cago elevators exact or 3 cents per bushel for reloading, and a similar process is performed at New 1'crk while the great wheat exchange of England takes its profits as it goes to the millions of that country where it is prepared for the millions of consu mers who pay at the rate of 125 per cent above its original selling price from the farmers of Dakota and Minnesota. We can plainly see that we poor fellows pay the board and washing of tnese monoply grain men, besides ceO to per month and all the kid gloves and fine cigars they can make away with. Shall we longer do this. JNo. Let us stand by our farmers' organization, stand together at all hazards, stand by an enemy if he upholds our punciples, stand bv every fanner who assists -.ur efforts let his creed be what it may. •jmy t- CORN ELL COLLEGE, MT. H1}1 Stock, Lecturer, C. V. Martin, Report Ol Farmers' Meeting. (Continued from last week.) i'res. Loucks followed Mr. AVolge muth. This geutleman shows by his appearance that he is at home on the farm, Ilis manner is plain, candid and impressive. In every way wo should take him to be the proper man tor the place he Sow occupies. lie spoke at some length on the growth of the Alliance stating that the membership now numbers over 15,000 and by fall will exceed 20,000, local clubs now being organized daily. He pointed out plainly the benefits, in a few way3 only, of farmers standing together claiming that the farmers have over four-lifths of Dakota's pop ulation and if properly banded togeth er could be felt from county to ter ritory in all righteous measures. IK m&mm. is under the direction nt the Jehuild Ciimity Council of Farmers' Alliances. Professors and teachers 575 students annually, superior museum, library, SStSES .Mr. L. spoke of the resolutions adopt ed by the Territorial Bankers'Associa tion that this organization would be content to let farmers and laboring men have the lower house of Dakota legislature but that they must have the Council. It is patent that any law however just and fair to farmer:: and bankers that might be passed by the lower house could be killed in the Council if Lhe bankers, having a majority of the members in that body, so desired. The fact of the business is there is, too much money in the banking of! Dakota to allow any just law to pas3 on usury. Will farmers allow them-: selves to be hoodwinked and led by a,\ set of men who say "you are all right, but you must keep out of politics. If you go into politics your Alliance is dead." Mr. L. gave an example of two robbers going into a house and one of them holding a revolver at the land lord's head telling him to keep quiet while the other robber took the valua bles from his dwelling—so a class of men supposing themselves to be states men and benefactors say to farmers "keep out of politics" while these fel lows rob the people of their hard earned dollars. Is this right? Is the picture overdrawn? Pres. Loucks was followed by J. W. Ilardec, who did his part well. After a few ques tions were asked Pres. Loucks, a vote of thanks was tendered the speakers and the meeting adjourned to meet in County Council July 7th. The following is received from Dak ota Farmers' Alliance Company. "We expect to issue a plow circular in a short time, showing a line line of plows. Do not forget this. We shall have the best gang plow in Dakota. Dp not order any binders before wri ting us. We are negotiating for one of the best made and will issue a cir on binders in a few days." Why is there so much talk about a representative to our coming legisla ture? Shall the farmers have a man from their own ranks, or can they trust some one not directly aijd prac ticullv interested with them Harmony F. A., Is'o. 518 met Thurs day-evening, July 5th. Among their new members are R. F. .Swatman, D. C. Hewitt, and {. E. Albert. No local alliance can get there in better shape than 518. Eleven local Alliances were repre sented at regular meeting July 7th. Among the new men present was C. O. Wright of Plaice. NOTICE.
