The board of County Commissioners of Brule county, South Dakota, met in the County Auditor's otlice July 5 1904 at 9 o'clock a. m. Members present, J. C. Scales, Ben Meiller, O. A. Crown, C. C. Man/, and Louis Richards. The meeting was called to order by Chairman Scales. 11 was moved by Crown seconded by Richards that the school loan of Mrs. M. .-schuman and Michael Conley be extended as requested in their peti tion—carried unanimously. It was moved by Manx, seconded by Crown that the road petition of Wal dro township be accepted and that the chairman appoint a committee of two to investigate the necessity of such a road—carried unanimously. The chairman appointed Scales and Richards as the aboye committee. It was moved by Richards seconded by Meiller the report of Veterinary Smith be approved and tiled—carried unanimously. It was moyed by Manz seconded by Meiller that the tax petition of John Mortensen be rejected—carried unani niously. It was moved by Richards seconded by Crown that the tax petition of M. W. Gibson be granted—carried unani mously. It was moved by Man/, seconded by Crown that the dog tax petition of A. X. Hoffman be rejected—carried un animously. It was moyed by Manz seconded by Richards that the school poll tax peti tion of Anton Kostka be rejected— carried unanimously. It was moved by Richards seconded by Crown that the tax petition of S S. Barr be granted—carried unani-' mously. It was moved py Manz seconded by Meiller that the tax petition ot J. E. Bloodgood be rejected—carried unani mously. Board took a recess till 1 o'clock p. m. Board met at 1 o'clock p. m. Board was called to order by Chair man Scales. County board took a recess till July 7th 1904 at 8 o'clock a. ni. The chairman called the equaliza tion board together. The following members were present towit: J. C. Scales, Louis Richards, C. C. Manz, Ben Meiller and O. A. Crown, county commissioners, and James II. Yarosh, county auditor. The equalization board of Brule county, South Dakota took the fol lowing oath towit. We, J. C. Scales, O. A. Crown, C. C. Man/., Louis Richards, Ben Meiller, county commissioners of Brule county South Dakota and James IT. It was moved and seconded that the tax petition of Ilalvor Ilalvorson1 and O. E. Matson relative to an excessive assessment be granted—carried unani mously. It was moved by Richards seconded by Crown that the tax petition of Car penter & Sanborn be granted on ac count of an erroreneous assessment carried unaninimously. Board took a recess till July 1904 at 8 o'clock a. m. Board met July (i 1904 at 8 o'clock a. m. Members all present. Board was called to order by Chair man .Scales. It was moved and seconded that 20 head of cattle belonging to Thos. Conley be transfered from Cleveland to Waldro township assessor book and that head of horses, 4 head of.cattlt and 28 hogs be stricken oil' the CU V,e land township assessor book to correct said Thos. Conley's assessment—ear ned unanimously. It was moyed and seconded that the t'" structures of Plummer townshipi be raised 150 per cent, of Richland town ship "0 per cent, of Wilbur township 40 per cent, of Pleasant Grove town ship "0 per cent, of Eagle township loO per cent, and the structors of Chamberlain, Pukwana and Smith townships be lowered 50 per cent and the structors of Kimball and America townships to be lowered 2 per cent carried unanimously. Board took a recess till 1 o'clock p. m. Board met at 1 o'clock p. m. Members all present. Board was called to order by Chair man Scales. It was moved by Man/, seconded by Richards that the assessment of John II. Wolf on tlie store building on lots 11 and 12, in block 3 Kimball city, S D. be lowered from $lvi0 to $1000— carried unanimously. On motion the equalization board adjourned, The county board met July 7 1904 at 8 o'clock a. m. Members all present. Board was called to order by Chair man Scales. Board at once proceeded to check the county auditor and treasurer's bcoks. Board took recess till 1 p. m. Board met at 1 p. in. Members all present. Board was called to order by Chair man Scales. It was moved by Richards seconded by Crown that 122 head of cattle be longing to J. A. Jones, of Dennison, Iowa, be transfered to him from the 190g assessment of Jacob Olson, said cattle -were assessed to Jacob Olson erroneously—carried unanimously. It was moved by Richards seconded by Meiller that the justices of the peace who shall have any state cast-s to try be allowed the use of the court room—carried unanimously. It was moved by Manz seconded by Crown that a refund for $15.00 be is sued to C. M. Walrod on account of double assessment—carried unani mously. On motion the school-loan applica tion of Mike Healey for $300 on the S. W. 11-104-70 was granted. On motion the following resolution was unanimously adopted towit Be it resolved by this board of coun ty commissioners that, In the matter of the school loan granted at the April meeting of this board to C. C. Keil and Clara M. City of Chamberlain, according to the tax resol tion—carried unani mously. It was moved by Richards seconded by Crown that a refund for $13.80 be issued in favor of Chas. Ilammell on account of double assessment—carried unanimously. It was moved by Meiller seconded by Crown that the holder of the tax sale certificates of lots 1 and 2 E 1 N W 7-104 69 be notified to surrender his certificate at once on an errorenous sale—carried unanimously. On motion the justice report of S. S. Stowell was approved and filed. It was moved by Richards seconded by Meiller that the Justice reports of James Cliggitt, II. C. Smith, II. L. WillrotJt and John Gleeson in the Chamberlain city election cases and the Larabee cases be rejected—carried unanimously.
